About Pastor Ina Omakwu

Inalegwu Omakwu (‘Pastor Ina’ as he was fondly called) was born on December 28, 1958. He graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria with a B.Sc. in Microbiology in 1980. After his National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) program, he felt God leading him to study at Oral Roberts University (ORU) and proceeded to the USA to study there. While at ORU, Pastor Ina married his wife Sarah Omakwu, and became the first international student to be appointed as head chaplain for graduate students. After earning a Masters Degree in Theology from ORU, he went to Regent University (USA), where he earned a Masters Degree in Communication. Throughout his education years, he was motivated by his vision to establish a ministry in Nigeria.

Upon returning from the USA, Pastors Ina and Sarah established Family Ministries International (FMI) in 1993. The first subsidiary of FMI was The Family Worship Center (FWC). The church which began with only 47 members in April 1993, has now grown to include over 10,000+ regular members within the Abuja metropolis.

In 2002, Pastors Ina and Sarah commissioned the second subsidiary of FMI- Royal Family Institutions- to raise distinguished Nigerian and African leaders through education. The first division of this subsidiary- The Royal Family Academy- was commissioned on the 27th September 2002. The school resumed academic activities with 29 pupils and 17 staff members and has grown to include a population of 1200+ pupils and 185+ staff members. RFA classes range from day care to SS3 (grade 12).

Throughout his ministry, Pastor Ina served as the Regional Director for the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) in Anglophone West Africa; providing over-sight for CBN activities in Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Gambia.

In February 2003, Pastor Ina passed away after a battle with cancer. Throughout his lifetime, he touched humanity with his great vision, compassion and faith.
